Why a training for preceptor-mentors?

  • The role of preceptors and mentors is vital to supporting new hires in a workplace.
  • The training will increase staff comfort with precepting-mentoring.
  • Streamlined content delivery allows for health care agencies to build capacity among experienced nurses to support new hires.

What will this training look like?

Nine foundational modules for all preceptor-mentors:

  1. Your roles and responsibilities as a preceptor/mentor
  2. Welcoming your preceptee: Establishing the relationship
  3. Fostering clinical judgement
  4. Learning theories
  5. Developing competence and confidence in clinical nursing practice
  6. Working together: Communication and role modelling
  7. Addressing bullying and microaggressions and conflict resolution
  8. Observation, feedback, assessment, and evaluation
  9. Anti-racism, equity, diversity, inclusion, decolonization, Indigenization, and reconciliation

Three additional specialized modules:

  1. Precepting-mentoring internationally educated nurses
  2. Precepting-mentoring new graduates
  3. Precepting-mentoring in acute care

Live discussion:

  • A 1-hour live conversation facilitated by instructors with a wealth of knowledge on precepting and mentoring, offered monthly.
  • Engagement with fellow nurses from across the country to share experiences.

Each module is approximately 20 to 30 minutes in length. Participants that successfully complete the modules and live discussion will receive a certificate.
