How does CASN define a “new nurse” or “new nurse graduate”? ▼
New graduates are registered nurses with less than 1 year of licensure.
We are a small organization and only want to have a very small group of new nurses participate. Is there another cost option? ▼

Yes! You can have your staff only take the Preceptor-Mentor Training Program or have new graduates only participate in the workshops only. Contact us for more information.
I just want to buy the simulation scenarios. How do I do that? ▼
CASN does not provide the high-fidelity simulation scenarios recommended in our Residency Program. Those are the responsibility of the employer. However, for employers that are unable to offer high-fidelity simulations, there are free virtual simulations offered through CAN-Sim (https://can-sim.ca/hc/).
When does registration open for the Preceptor-Mentor course? ▼
Registration for the spring (March-June) session opens in January. Registration for the fall (September-December) session opens in June. Registration remains open until 2 weeks before the end of the session.
Can we have practical nurses/other health care professionals take the Preceptor-Mentor course? What about the Residency Program? ▼
Practical nurses are welcome to take the Preceptor-Mentor Training Program. Other health care professionals might find the content useful, but it is directly geared towards nurses. In addition, nurses will be given registration priority.
The Residency Program is currently only available for new registered nurses. We are in discussions to develop an equivalent program for practical nurses.
