Keeping up with Care: Evidence Based Practice in a Virtual World

Description

In this continuing education course, nurse practitioners, nurse educators and other healthcare providers will gain new, and strengthen current knowledge, related to the use of virtual care technology and best practices in assessment and treatment of patients using this now common modality. Content will include theoretical, practical and legal perspectives. There will be an opportunity to develop practice tools relevant to your setting, as well as teaching and learning strategies using evidence-based activities related to virtual care, to share new knowledge with students or the rest of your team.

Learning outcomes

Define virtual care visits.

  1. Discuss differences between modalities (i.e. Phone call, Zoom, FaceTime) used to complete virtual visits.
  2. Identify possible security risks and approaches to mitigate these risks.
  3. Describe the steps in the virtual care process.
  4. Discuss important pre-planning and follow-up activities important to virtual care.
  5. Discuss assessment, diagnosis and intervention planning using virtual care including the use of e-prescribing.
  6. Identify important resources to support best practice in virtual care.

Refund and Cancellation Policy

Cancellations

  • Registrations that are cancelled up to one week before the start of the course will be refunded minus a $50 administrative fee.
  • Registrations that are cancelled with less than one week’s notice will not be refunded, though the participant will have the option to defer the cost of the course to apply to another CNEI/CASN course.
  • There will be no refunds issued once the course begins.
  • CASN reserves the right to cancel this course if it does not meet minimal group requirements.

Course Content

  • Participants are responsible for access to any course materials, including articles and textbooks.
  • There will be no make-up assignments accepted.
  • Assignments will not be re-marked.
  • Late submissions will not be accepted, unless under exceptional circumstances.

Attendance

  • Attendance is mandatory for all sessions, barring exceptional circumstances, unless otherwise noted in the course syllabus.

Accommodations

  • If a participant requires special accommodation, they must notify the instructor(s) and CASN coordinator prior to the start of the course. Accommodations for physical or mental health reasons must be confirmed by a health professional.
