Building and Balancing: Creating a Robust Program of Nursing Research

DESCRIPTION

This course is intended for early and mid-career faculty members working in educational settings where research and scholarship are expectations of their faculty positions. It may also be of interest to nursing education administrators in such settings who provide support and guidance to faculty members regarding their research and scholarship careers.  Participants will explore strategic approaches to the development of successful programs of nursing research, including managing competing career demands, project and time management, and supports necessary to sustain research success.

Audience: Nurse educators, nursing education administrators

Delivery: Online (Zoom & Moodle)

Timeframe: 4 weeks (weekly 2-hour webinar on Tuesdays at 2 pm EDT)

REQUIREMENTS

Participants will attend four two-hour live course sessions over a period of four weeks. Learning activities will include project mapping, course discussion, and short-and long-term goal setting.

LEARNING OUTCOMES

By the end of this course, participants will have developed the following competencies:

  1. Develop a plan to address the competing expectations of faculty members with respect to teaching, research and service commitments.
  2. Determine how their program of research relates to the requirements for tenure and promotion within their educational institutions-, as well as current local, provincial and national health concerns, research priorities and funding initiatives.
  3. Map out plan for advancing a program of research, including proposed interval goals and strategic approaches.
  4. Describe the considerations involved in forming a strong research team.
  5. Identify appropriate time management and project management strategies to promote success.
  6. Develop a plan to support grant and publication writing success.
  7. Identify strategies to support and sustain research success, including mentorship, partnerships, and necessary personal, professional and institutional supports.

$275 CAD for participants from CASN member schools
$300 CAD for regular participants

POLICIES

Cancellations

  • Registrations that are cancelled up to one week before the start of the course will be refunded minus a $50 administrative fee.
  • Registrations that are cancelled with less than one week’s notice will not be refunded, though the participant will have the option to defer the cost of the course to apply to another CNEI/CASN course.
  • There will be no refunds issued once the course begins.
  • CASN reserves the right to cancel this course if it does not meet minimal group requirements.

Participants are responsible for access to any course materials, including articles and textbooks.
